I just recently installed a Steeda Tri-ax shifter into my tranny. Along with the tri-ax, I purchased the Steeda Insulated Shiftknob. It simply just screws on to the shift handle. There is NO tightening screw (alan screw) on the base of the knob to tighten the knob to the handle and prevent it from loosening. I'm finding every now and then after prolonged use, the shiftknob does tend to loosen/come undone and I have to retighten it. I'm afraid that too much of this will end up stripping the plastic inner thread of the shiftknob and I'll have to buy a new one ($35).

I'm really tempted to put a little bit of "LOCTITE 242" threadlock glue along the lower portion of the thread on the shifthandle and then screwing the knob back onto the handle hoping the glue will aid in the prevention of the knob from continually loosening, at the same time, the LOCTITE I'm going to use is "breakable" meaning if I ever have to take the knob off, with some effort I can break the seal and unscrew the knob no problem.

LOCTITE has a warning that it's not good for thermoplastics, however, the knob threaded insulator is delrin plastic and a tech from LOCTITE said it's ok and won't eat/dissolve the delrin.

Should I use it????????????????????????????

Thanks

If the tech says it is okay then I can't really see it hurting! I guess it is better than your handle randomly coming off.

Go for it if they say its ok...BTW I used gasket sealer because of the thickness of it and never had a problem.
