On a 1970 mach 1need to know the location of the confidential vin #, there are two stamped #s that are visible on the r/s and l/s fender apron alongside the fenders edge, this is an 8 didit code, as opposed to the 11 digit code on the dash.. here's the problem, the one on the fender apron is exactly the same as the one on the windshield but starts w/ #1 , as opposed to #0, First question. Does the first digit on the fender apron 8 digit code stand for model year, 2nd question if so did mis- stampings happen, third question, is there another location for a hidden vin on this car, any info on this problem would be greatly appreciated , even a referral to a service that could help

1. Yeah, first digit is model year.
2. Mistampings did occur. Does the rest of the VIN match the dash VIN or pink slip?
3. Don't know.

I think the "hidden vin#" is an urban legend. I've only found vin #'s to be located on the aprons and doors on early cars plus the windsheild on later cars. On all the '60's and '70's Fords I've ever had apart, I've yet to uncover anything else.
