I recently added an American Muscle CAI to my 2000 V6. It now makes a putting sound(4 or 5 times) when i put it in park. It idles fine after the putts stop. I am sure it is not supposed to make this sound as i have installed one on my 06 Monte Carlo and it makes no odd sounds. I took it apart to make sure everything was tight, everything was. The intake i bought got all good reviews.

Any ideas Or suggestions are greatly appriciated.

Did you get the $69.99 one? That's the one I have and mine is running fine. Did you make sure to put all of your sensors back in correctly such as the Mass Airflow Sensor?

Did you leave the square resonator box in the IAC bypass line?

Remember that engines do not inhale in a smooth fashion like a fan. Instead it is a series of pulses or waves. This uneven flow can set up resonance waves inside the manifold. That is why cars have the odd shaped boxes in an attempt to cancel out those noises.

If your cold air intake has removed the square resonator box in the IAC line, there is nothing to cancel out the noises that were there all along.

Yes all sensors were installed correctly, everything is tight. I even unhooked the battery to reset the computer. The intake removed everything up to the throttle body.

You haven't answered the question about the square box of the IAC bypass line. If it has been removed, this is almost certainly the reason for the increased noise.

If the noise brothers you, try putting the square box back in the IAC bypass line.

While it makes the putting noise does it idle correctly? or does it idle like crap until after the putting noise stops?

It sounds like these guys already have you going a good direction. Please follow their advice, and also make sure to check for any vacuum leaks, as this is possible. I have also seen electronics not fully making contact or plugged in properly. If you get jammed up, please feel free to contact our Customer Service representatives. Thanks for your business!

Im not exactly sure what box you are refering to. The intake i bought removed everything from the throttle body down to the filter.

The car idles normal. I cleaned the mass air flow sensor thouroughly hoping it would help but it did not. If the iac was malfunctioning it would throw a code would'nt it? The car is running good but the sound bothers me.

My honest opinion is that the best way to fix your problem is to reinstall the factory air box. CAI setups do nothing but pull in warm underhood air and sometimes the sound "cool". The factory setup actually gets cool outside air.

Also, if you do that and the issue you have is still there, then you have narrowed down your search for what is wrong. If it goes away then you have fixed it.

We had the KN FIPK crap on our 97 Cobra for a while and it did nothing but run worse and the fuel economy was also down for the several months that it was installed. The same is true of the one that was on my truck.

I just hate to see people throw money away on useless parts.

The filter on this kit is right above the wheel well, inside the fender. I threw out the old air box so that option is out.
