V6 Mustangs in Winter

I am thinking about getting a 04 V6 Mustang for a day to day driver and a 5.0 convertible for summer. I was wondering if anyone knew how the V6s handle in winter time. I live in Wisconsin and we usually get snow between nov to march. Anyone have any suggestions?

I drove one for 3 winters here. It's do-able, but if you're gonna get a 5.0 Stang then I suggest getting something that's either FWD or 4WD for the winter.

The best way to do it is to have good snowtires on the 15in wheels, make sure your brakes are good, have a little weight in the back and then just take it easy.

Where in Wisconsin? Somewhere in the country or in a urban area? If in an urban area, you should be fine. If your somewhere in a rural area, then you might get in trouble if the streets don't get plowed and snow piles up.

My 1st car was an '86 v6 Vert and I did fine here in Iowa. Keep a set of good tires for the winter, keep the tank full (at least above half) for extra weight, and as stated, take it easy. I drove my 86 for 5 years and never had problems once.

Zinc makes a good point, however...if you live in town and they plow the main paths traveled, you'll be fine. If you live in a rural area, maybe you should focus on the 5.0 for the summer and a 4wd truck/SUV for the off-season.

I have an 05 V6 and I live in Cleveland Ohio (120 inches of Snow last year). I gotta say though the 05's are really decent in the snow. Granted that the streets do get plowed here regularly, but the Traction Control does help quite a bit. The only trouble I really have is in my apartment complex where apparantly they have never heard of a snow plower.
I would love to have a beater for the winter, but havent really looked into getting one. If you want a Stang for the winter, and if you have some extra money to spend, I would consider an 05 v6.

make sure you get traction control however. My stang is like a greased pig in the snow because i lack trac control.

I live in Wis. Mom drives her '04 GT the entire winter with no issues. Set of Blizzacks on the back and that's it.

once the tired start spinning they wont stop, and hitting the brakes causes the car to skid wildly with no control at all
i had to throw it in neutral and pray

Just carry an boat anchor(with those points on the end so it can dig into the ground) in your car and when your sliding, throw it out the window.

actually, they will stop if you take your foot of the gas.....and you shouldn't get them to spin the first place

05 V6 are nothing to compared with old 5.0 motor and body.. I had one 05 V6 when some dumb**** backed in my car and it was start of winter, drove it during alot of snow (i'm in canaduh) and it handles perfectly! Way better then my winter beater now

A mustang good in the snow!? Isn't that an old wives tale? What next your going to tell me that mustangs actually have OK suspention?

Actually, I heard the new '05 and '06 arn't that bad in the snow and there suspention is better.

True that! The 05's are better. I think they have done well with the weight ratio on these cars too. I mean dont get me wrong, in heavy snow, they are still a little tough to drive, but from what I have heard about older mustangs, its not as bad.
