V8 vs. 6 Cylinder Power Steering

If you aren't going to change the spindles, then you could leave the 6cyl power steering in place. All the parts are different between 6cyl and V8 that year, but you can still use them. The only part of the 6cyl power steering linkage that is weaker than the V8 parts is the stud of the tie rod end where they mount to the spindles and centerlink.

The 6cyl pump had the short straight-up filler neck on it, and it didn't have the support stud on the back of the pump, but was otherwise just like the V8 model. If you don't have air conditioning, you could use the 6cyl pump on the V8 mounting bracket.
