Anyone know if it goes bad or not? Could this cause a miss in my 85 GT at 3500 rpms at heavy loads and be fine during normal driving? Is there anyway of swapping a newer styled distributor in or would I have to change the whole ignition set up? Thanks in advance.

It's easy to check - at idle if you pull the hose off (block the end of the hose off after you pull it) the timing should advance. Put the light on it and see what happens when you disconnect it. When you plug it back in, the timing should retard. In any event, I doubt that it would cause your miss at 3500.
