Values of '93 Fox 5.0 Notch...

I have a 1993 notch that is metallic strawberry (I think) with black interior. My wife thinks I should get a newer car but, I kind of like this one. My question to everyone is; do you think it is worth restoring one of these cars or did they just make too many of them for the cars to be worth investing the money into them?

I could probably sell it for $5,000 and put that money into a newer car; maybe an '04 or '05 GTO or I could invest $10-$12,000 and make a pretty neat daily driver out of it.

What are your thoughts on this as I am still very undecided.

notches hold value but don't expect to get your money invested back but at the same time a GTO won't hold much value either.

I would look at what you think you're going to really keep long term.

It's hard to put a value on fox bodies right now. Personally, I think these cars are getting more and more desired by the younger generation (at 30 years old I'm including myself in that). Blue book value isn't going to matter when everyone wants a fox, just like a 65 mustang has a book value of about $3k but everyone knows you can just barely get a stripped out rust bucket '65 for that much.

my $.02 would be take the 10-12 thou and go buy another car, stick your fox in the garage and restore it. Then when you're done with it, it will be worth so much more.

There's another thread about which is more desired, restored or raced. Build the car for who you think will want it, if you think it's the younger crowd, build a street legal racer, if it's the older generation, restore it. Just remember, the older generation has more money to spend and is looking for a spacific car. A teenager is looking to get laid and thinks any fast car will do, but he has to find one on his grocery bagging salary.

I'm a street legal racecar lover myself. My older brother on the other hand is happy with his wheel upgrade and short throw shifter on a his nice stock 93 GT vert

Honestly, I'd hold onto a car like that. Post up the VIN so me or someone else can tell you what paint you actually have. To me, the later notches with the nicer paint choices and black interiors will be among the most sought after fox bodies later on down the road.

The EP paint code denotes it as 'Vermillion'. This is probably a more common color with it being used on mustangs between 1990 and 1993. There were 3,709 five liter notches built with the EP paint code between 1990 and 1993. 910 of these were built in 1993. Not sure what rough percentage of these cars were fitted with black interiors.

I'd like to see some pics of this car if you have any.

this is really something you have to decide on your own. if you threw $12k at that car, you'd have one hell of a ride when you're done. much more than a "neat daily driver". i get tons of and turn more heads with my car than almost any other car on the road around my parts, and its really nothing special. NICE 5.0's are quite rare around here, and the prices are going up. a lot of people have some kind of nostalgic lust for these cars. but in many aspects, it still wouldn't compare to the newer cars. the technology has just come so far, that these cars don't live up to their reputation unless they have a ton of mods. family sedans are putting out more hp with smaller engines, better brakes, better ride, better mileage etc.

i personally have put too much time and $$$ into my car already to turn back now. its a slow work in progress, with no hopes of getting hardly any return on the money spent. i'm keeping it because i like it. its like a family member now. don't spend the money thinking you're going to get a return on it, because it won't happen. spend it to make a car that you love to call your own. i dont think you can get that with a new car off the lot.

I figured $12,000.00 might even be on the low side.

$3,000.00 Paint
$2,000.00 5 lug conversion, new rims and tires
$2,000.00 Reupholster the interior, new seat foam, new carpet
$5,000.00 High quality engine rebuild or aftermarket crate motor

I could even add to that list but this is basically what I was thinking about for the car. With all of this done it would be a nice looking notch that ran very well and I could use everyday.

The older the better. I turn everybodys head with my notch. Old people, young people, guys, girls, even small dogs and cats. With my 96 Cobra....I turn no heads. Hell...even my Cobra is old....its almost 12 years old, but nobody knows...they think it is like late 2000's model.....here is my notch.

Nothing special...just nice. 5 lug swap, 99-04 PBR's and a nice paint job I did myself. Interior is 100% factory original. It is still mostly stock. (And it's a 4cyl car swapped to a 5.0L!!)

You are much smarter than this statement. You should see the the cars sitting under insterstate 10 after Katrina. 50's,60's and 70's Mercedes, Ferrari's,BMW's , etc ALL with LESS than 40k to 50k miles and have orig tires, batts, etc. With a good key and batt- crank right up.

A car can be an investment. I have a one tooth'ed cousin that had a Superbee in his pasture since 1981. He covered the moving parts with a thin oil and is now going to be quite wealthy. He has numerous under 50k miled Nomads and 440ci Cornonets. Automobiles are wonderful investments. Quiet down.

If the car is worth $5000 right now then it will not go down in value. Next year it will be worth at least that and probably more as long as it is in the same condition. So you really don't have much to lose if you hold on to it. Just becareful with what money you spend on the car becasue you might not get it back. Unless it is money to maintain the original condition of the car. Foxbody Mustangs are very desirable in stock condition so keeping it close to stock may be wise if you want to maximize your investment. It is very hard to keep a Mustang stock becasue there are so many parts availavble and so much you can do. It is almost like an addiction. I would guess there are more modified Foxbodies than stock ones. Everbody wants that low mileage unmolested 5-speed Notchback. and as time goes on they are harder and harder to find.

ya i tell my dad that every once in a while.

he had a 66 coupe 351w 4 speed that he sold a week before i was born

actualy he tried to buy it back last year but the old man dont wanna sell it back to us

Usually, but not always. With my 93 Cobra, I can sell it for what I bought it for, any time I want. I've already been offered 1K more than I paid.
