Valve Cover Breather Hose collapsing?

The rubber hoses beween the Valve Cover breathers to the plastic tube to the plenum keep collapsing. im now using uber-thick radiator hose and it just collapses when the vehicle is turned on. Its only one side too, its the passenger valve cover breather hosing, the drivers side is still on the thin ford crap and has maintains its rigidity and flow when turned on.

Anybody know what it means? i checked for possible blockage in the valve cover breather elbow, but it all flows fine.

Just get some hard plastic line that won't collapse.

Mine just started doing that too. Have you noticed any problems with your idle?

if you replace the line make sure you get fuel line. it holds up better to the heat and exhaust from the valves.

yeah i usually do, ive used that before and it collapsed as well. The autozone guy gives me **** because "Fuel line in place of a vacuum hose will not pass visual inspection!", or "radiator hose is NOT made for airflow!" (cause i used to buy 2.5" ID radiator hose and use it for couplers in my old GST)

im thinking about getting some pvc and making a hard pipe and only using a rubber coupler in a few short places, so if it does collapse, it doesnt cut off airflow.

and no, i have not noticed any side effects, but if its open and free breathing from the factory, its like that for a reason, and should prolly stay that way.

Thread back from the dead...

Anyone else had this problem? I just replaced that hose after it had a crack in it and was throwing a lean code on the car. I got a piece of hose and cut it to match the original, but the hose is collapsing. Any fixes?

i would say that the fuel line idea is a pretty good one.

Eh, I've seen older threads resurrected!

So are fuel lines designed to not collapse or are generally stronger than these rubber lines used? Should I try to get an OEM replacement part from from Ford?

The fuel line will be resistant to the oil that flows through the line. The passenger's side line is not just a breather, it's the PCV system. That side is under vacuum, which is why the line is collapsing. The driver's side is just a breather, and shouldn't see vacuum if the air intake isn't restrictive.

Not an ideal fix, but what I did to make the hose stop collapsing was I put 3 small hose clamps on the hose. I put 1 on each of the bends and one in the center of the other two clamps. Obviously you don't want to tighten them down, but get them snug enough to make it difficult to suck the hose flat.

My car does the same thing. For a while, I had a piece of soft copper tubing stuffed inside of the hose, but it ended up cutting the hose at the ends over time. Right now I've been running with it sucked flat on the stocker. I'm thinking of making something out of conduit, and polishing it up.
