valve life on edelbrock heads with this cam

how long will the stock valve springs on the edelbrock performer cylinder heads last with a cam that has .544/.560 with 220/224 duration and 114 lsa?? they say the springs will handle up to .575 lift, but for how long? thanks.

That's impossible to say on any motor.It depends on how you rev it, if you overheat it, oil changes etc...

The question is ...is the seat pressure & the open where it needs to be?

The cam card will tell you what the open pressure & the seat pressure of the valve spring will need to be. As long as they match (spring pressure should be slightly higher than what the cam card calls for, for best durability) then it will work fine.

Can you tell me what spring pressures are listed on the cam card? it'll say "Open" pressure & "closed" pressure (also called seat pressure.

hmmmm, i dont actually have the cam yet, but i know the part number if that will help? its a comp cams 35-312-8. Im overseas right now so dont have access to a phone or a solid mail address, so my way of getting information is limited. thanks.

Well I checked comps web site & the don't mention anything on-line about the spring pressures or even the recomended springs:

If it helps at all my cam is 220/226 @.050 with .510 lift.... using stock edelbrock springs. I'd think based off the info I have the stock edelbrock springs would be fine.

if your going to run it hard, which I assume you will,, I would allow for more room that just .010 of lift. I would get a set that were good to .600 which I thought the edel heads were good for. I have a set on my car and I thought thats what the springs were rated too.. Never hurts to get the proper springs with the cam though! It's good insurance.

With .544 lift cam he'll have .031 clearence before spring/valve bind. Edelbrock springs are good to .575 lift... extra insurance is good & I do recommend that he double check the spring requirments once he get's his hands on a Cam Card.
