Valve train clatter???

My car sounds like crap under light acceleration (probably higher R's too, but the exhaust gets too loud to hear it), I did a search and I heard that it could be caused from valve train noise echoing due to my O/R pipe. What should I check to see if this is my problem?

I figured it was an exhaust leak, so I went under the car while it was running and had a friend rev it (but I couldn't find anything because there is no noise except when it's under load) so I pulled the h-pipe to header connections apart and sealed them w/some rtv and bolted them back together as tight as I could but it didn't do anything to help. I also retightened the header bolts with no change.

Any ideas??

I don't know but mine does that too. I had never thought about it being echoing in the mid-pipe before though. I don't sweat it, I used to, but now I kind of like it  It reminds me I have a pushrod valvetrain and the torque that comes with it. :D

Does your engine run rough or show any other symptoms of problems?

The engine runs fine, I don't see any problems with the header gaskets. But I guess if it broke on the bottom I wouldn't see it anyway. Maybe I'll just replace em and see.

thanks
