anybody have a break down of one of these? I am trying to figure out if the air sensor in one of these is air temp or air density or something.

i need an air temp sensor for my new setup. I took apart a VAM and got the Air sensor from it but I am unsure what it is.

any ideas/ help??

Ive found a book from Motorbooks called 'How to tune and modify FORD FUEL INJECTION' (ISBN # 0-7603-0503-X) to be excellent in explaining how all aspects of the various types of systems Ford used (EEC III, EEC IV, OBD & OBD2)

What you found was a 'Vane Air Temp' (VAT). The VAT and a common FoMoCo 'Air Charge Temp' (ACT) sensor both opereate alike. They both require 5-volts reference (VREF) and when the engine is cold the sensor voltage is high, 3-volts at 68-deg. F. As the charge temp increases the voltage to the ECA drops, 2.2-volts at 100-deg. F. Therefore the VAT is an air temp and not an air density sensor. If you need get an ACT from a Ford dealer, it's the same size as a knock sensor or coolant temp sensor and you should be able to mount it anywhere (in the intake system  jus coverin' my azz!) with a hole and a bung like custom O2 sensor installs.

Hope I could help!
