Aside from a very modded motor, I don't see the problem with speed density, at all. The '86 I had exhibited the smoothed idle of any 5.0 Fox I've ever heard, whereas both of Frankenstang's MAF-controlled 5.0 Foxes tend to be really fussy with their idle and running conditions (they like to ping easily when it gets hot outside). MAF is good for built motors, but in stock or mildly modded form, speed density's kind of hard to beat (tends to run rich instead of lean).

Speed density's just really fussy when it comes to having any vacuum leaks. But as long as your hoses and connections are all in good shape ... s'all good, yo.

Besides ... stock for stock, isn't a speed density Fox usually just a tad quicker down the 1/4 mile than a MAF Fox?

I honestly wish both mine were speed density. I LOVED the way that GT idled.
