No, not flatulence, The rear end vent hose on my 67 runs through a grommet into the trunk. This just seems stupid to put that smell in the trunk. Where does everybody elses run? What was Ford thinking?
Balances out the smell from the holes in the firewall and shifter boot in my 67. But seriously, the PO installed a firewall behind the back seat due to the battery in the trunk. I still love old school stuff.
A filter is a good idea. I might try a small filter from some other application or just strap it up under the car. Every one I've seen is rotted or broken off under there anyway.

The vent was routed into an enclosed area to prevent debris from getting into it. It would work just fine pointing straight up, but then your oil would be contaminated. I like the metal vent-cap with filter.
