It is pretty difficult to do if you haven't done it before. If you're patient and pretty good with your hands you can do it though. I did my first top on the mustang I own now (see my avatar). If you replace the back window you just gotta be sure you get the back bow height right or you'll be cleaning up alot of broken glass. If it's your first time, expect to spend a weekend getting it right.

How long can a pro. shop do it, assuming you have an appointment booked to do it?

I don't really know anything about dying the vinyl. If you know how to do it, it would make changing tops much easier on you though. It would speed up your installation and probably save you about $200 or so on a window.

A pro shop will get it done in a day or two if they're not too busy. A week is about the longest it should take them if theyre a little backed up. I'm assuming your just replacing the vinyl though, not the frame.

Hey shttygtstang, did UPS ever drop by?

I had my top replaced a few months back by a shop, took them no more than 3 hours but i wouldn't touch it myself with a 10' pole, little cuban guy that was about 5'4" was the perfect size for that interior part of the job, i'm too big for that crap. EXTREMELY well worth the $300 i paid them for labor.

Yeah, the main reason i did it myself was because the top frame was bent up as well. I took it to the local shop and they told me that replacing the top and the frame was gonna cost me $1300. I didn't have that kind of cash so I ended up getting a top online ($150) and a frame on half price day at the boneyard ($50). Didn't need to replace my back window, so that was it. Only thing I would have done different, I should have replaced the top pads while I had it all apart. That was an extra $100 that I didn't have though. If you do it yourself you'll spend most of your time trying to get the wrinkles out of the rear quarters. That was the hardest part IMO. If youre not the patient type, it's well worth the $300 to save you the frustration.

Good Luck
