Vertical doors

So I had a vertical door kit put on my Stang a few years back. Looked great, especially parked at car shows!
But then as each year passed, I noticed the hydraulic shocks that are used to hold up the weight of the door started to weaken. Before long, I wasn't able to even open up the passenger door without it completely dropping! That was so bad, and can cause more damage to the paint and the door itself! But luckily, I quickly took it the body shop and had the factory hinges replaced so I could, at the very least, be able to get into my car!
Anyone have any horror stories about their door kits or any other modification they tried that just went up in flames?!
