Drivetrain Vibration after changing clutch

I just installed a new Exedy clutch and a Luk flywheel and I am experiencing a vibration that increases with RPM. The vibration exists with the transmission in neutral or in any gear so I am guessing it is related to the clutch/pressure plate or the flywheel. The flywheel was really cheap from RockAuto so I am wondering if maybe it isn't properly balanced, does anyone have experience with this?

If it didn't do it before the clutch change then I agree.
I'd take a peek at the balancer on the front of the engine but yeah you likely tear'n that trans back out. Hate'n that!
Yeah no vibration before the clutch change and the balancer should be fine it's only a couple years old. Really sucks to have to pull the trans again so I definitely want to make sure everything is good before putting it back together so I don't need to take it out a THIRD time.

Nothing wrong with LUK products..... I think you just had a bad or the wrong flywheel..... Glad your up and running...

I checked the P/N stamped on the wheel and it's the right part.

To be honest I kind of expected this to happen when I only paid $50 for a flywheel, I imagine the quality control is a lot worse compared to one from Ford or something when the price is that low. Just figured it was worth a shot since it cost less than resurfacing.

Replaced the flywheel and the vibration is gone. Not going to be buying any more Luk flywheels that's for sure.
What brand flywheel did you buy? I recently installed a complete LUK clutch kit with flywheel and it vibrates. I'm planning to just replace the flywheel as the clutch is working well. I would appreciate any recommendations as I only want to crawl under this thing one more time to pull the trans if I can help it.

You should not go with a flywheel that does not meet SFI specifications. This will just about ensure you are getting a high quality part.

I have seen some flywheels say “SFI quality” but not SFI approved or have the SFI logo.

Nowhere do I see this with LUK flywheels and the price alone would concern me. You get what you pay for and I like my legs attached to my body.

I will say it seems like a recent issue with LUK according to this thread as the guys in there had good luck.

Regardless I will not run anything but a billet flywheel.

Sounds like maybe Luk sent out a bad batch of parts. I just had my old flywheel resurfaced and put it back in. Not sure exactly where it came from or what the part number is but I remember it had a Ford logo cast into it on the back. If your old wheel has enough meat left on it, then I would suggest just having it resurfaced, since that way you know for sure it will work. It won't break the bank either.

If you get something SFI certified like @AeroCoupe suggested, you'll definitely get a good flywheel too, but you'll probably spend more.

I’m having a similar issue. I just bought a 97 Cobra so I don’t know the history of the car. It has a horrible vibration starting at 2000 rpm and happens in neutral as well. I’m going to check the balancer tomorrow, but I’m leading towards the flywheel. Is there any way to tell if it’s the incorrect flywheel? Is there flywheels that aren’t counter balanced to the crankshaft? Also if I pull it out I’m going to do the clutch and flywheel anyway, what is recommended? I want the car just stock like. Not looking for any performance upgrade.

You will be better off posting in the "1996 - 2004 SN95 Mustang -General/Talk-" forum as you are dealing with a modular motor. Same principles and all but you will get better support in that forum.

Buy stock replacements.
