Anybody know why my 95 GT sporadically vibrates at 1000 rpms? It doesnt do it all of the time, but most of the time, and only at 1k rpms. I've changed plugs and wires, fuel filter, air filter.

Sounds like your harmonic balancer is going bad. Check to see if the rubber is poking out on either side. Do a search and you will see this is a common thinng on our cars.

I upgraded to a Pioneer pn 872030 which is sfi approved and needs no spacer when mine went bad.

If you use a stocker or another cheap replacement you will just have to replace it again. I've seen some on this board say they went through two or three of them trying to save money before moving up to a quality balancer.

I have the same thing but only if the car is under load, I usually only notice in 5th gear around 45 mph.

Harmonic balancer as well?

Thanks.

Indeed it could be the harmonic balancer, but two other times I noticed car vibration at certain rpms were:

Bent drive shaft

Broken valve spring

Interestingly enough, I didn't notice the shimmy or vibration throughout the entire RPM band, only in specific widths....

Just throwing it out there.

I get the same vibration as the tach crosses through 1000 RPM. I hope i dont have a broken valve spring.

Are harmonic balancers a PITA to change? How do you fit anything down there to pull the crank pulley off?
