I Have a 1975 2.8L Mach1 with a Manual RAD transmission.
While replacing the universal joints I noticed that the damper ring on the slip yoke at the front of the drive shaft (transmission end) was cracked.

Can I just remove it or am I risking vibration damage to the drive train?
If not any help finding a replacement slip yoke/damper assembly?

The slip yoke has 25 spline, 1.375 OD X 4.5 shaft, 1-1/6 OD universal bores and approx. 5-11/16 Universal bore centerline to end of shaft.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Personally, I'd take it to a driveshaft specialist. They may be able to offer some advice or otherwise repair your driveshaft. Is it the ring that's cracked, or is it the bond between the yoke and the damper? If it's the ring, you may be better off finding a replacement yoke - but it begs the question what the hell happened to it? If it's the bond, we can just attribute it to age.....

Thanks LILCVRA
The cast iron ring is cracked.. done while removing the OEM universal. I did take it to a driveshaft specialist (of course after I screwed it up!) I removed the damper and they balanced the driveshaft. The rubber under the ring is just a strip of rubber that came off with the ring. Driveshaft is back in and runs OK at 30 MPG but not been able to take it out on the thruway to check for vibration. As for finding another OEM yoke with the damper ring, have not found any. If you know of any sources, would be appreciated
Thanks

Sorry, I can't help with a source for something like that. I can't imagine they're much different between various models, but I could be wrong. I wouldn't think it would be a big deal if it were used without the damper as long as your driveshaft is balanced. There were/are a number of vehicles on the road without the damper.....

Ran it at 70 mph with out any unusual vibration so I am assuming it is good to go.
Thanks for the input
