Hello all, i have a vibration in my 97 mustang pass 60mph on up, i feel the vibration in my steering wheel and pedal but when i go pass 60 it feels like the whole car shakes. Ive changed the U-Joints. Its a manual shift. Ive also noticed a small leak from my rack and pinion.

The simplest thing to do is to have each wheel and tire assembly checked for balance and each tire specifically checked for defects like bulges or belt shifts.

When did the vibration start (i.e. was it doing this a month ago?) Is there anything you can think of that would link with the onset of the vibration (e.g. loaning the car to a friend...)?

It started vibrating after I got 2 new tires, I have a used one on the driver's front side when i had a blow out in Houston, but the tire on the passenger front is the tire that came on the car when i bought it. I think it may be just that one tire, all the tires was rebalanced.

You have answered your question, an imbalanced tire will make a lot of noise, I've improperly imbalanced lot of tires, lol.....

Rebalance the two front tires. If ur feeling it through the wheel its prob tires our of balance. U didn't curb a tire did u if so it could b a bent wheel or broken cord in the tire

Im going to get a new tire, ball joints, new rack and pinion, and rear wheel bearing because the parts are getting worn anyway due to the age of the car, im the second owner tho. So thats good.

I'm just going to throw this out there, but used tires are a bad deal, because you don't know what's happened to them. I quit paying money for them a long time ago because balanced or not, it seems like they'll eventually give you problems. Most of the time they get run the opposite direction of what they origionally ran and they will seperate, creating a huge imbalance. I've read debates for 20 years as to whether it's safe to swap rotational direction on radial tires, but I'm telling you from first hand experience, it destroys them.

I agree only buy used tires to get by for a very short time and only if you absolutely have to. And never spin radials backwards once they are broke in. A used tire should cost less than 20 bucks.

Why? Just replace what needs it.
