Most likely going to try and install the new vinyl top on my '66. Anyone have any tips or advice? How hould it be lined up and what should I do at the drip rails? How far down onto the windshield ledges should it go?

These two sites helped with the vinyl top on my 68 Cougar.

http://www.moparmusclemagazine.com/howto/25738_horse_skinning/index.html

http://www.moparts.com/Tech/Archive/misc/4.html

Take your time and do it on a warm day, it'll help with stretching and manuvering the vinyl.

AWESOME! The second site really squared it away for me. Warm days are common lately, but then, it might be 60 tomorrow and 30 the next day. Jacked up weather we're having here. I as considering using a blow drier to heat it up.

I actually threw my top in the dryer before letting it lie out in the sun. that got rid of 80% of the wrinkles Just take your time and get good glue. I used 6 cans of the 3M stuff specifically for vinyl tops. It got a little expensive but it liiks good.

Most vinyl tops that have been replaced, or dealer installed, have the top material ending about two inches down on the windshield pillars, where it is folded over, then scrap pieces used to go down toward the bottom of the windshield. This method is illustrated in the links that tweet66 posted. This saves a lot of material, but Mustang factory vinyl tops were made in one piece, and cut out where the windshield goes. If you are going to show the car, do it in one piece.

Already have a top, but I have zero intentions of this being a concours correct show car.

I used 3M spary glue in 19oz. cans, #08090. It took about six cans but I've been told it can be done with four. Your can get the same glue in a 5 gal can (#08046) but it needs to be rolled on or sprayed with a gun. If I do this again I'm going to buy the can and roll it on for best coverage. The spray cans got old real fast
