I just pulled my 70 out and put a new battery in it and when I connected the cables, it starts on it's own (without the key in it) so I replaced the solenoid and it still starts when I connect it. Could I have crossed wired something? It looks like everything is correct. thanks for your help.

Definately sounds like you wired something wrong. I'd start be verifying that the wiring at the starter solenoid is correct. You should only have +12V at the "S" terminal when the key is in the "Start" position.
