omfg i just installed bbk lt headers,x-pipe,plenum and 75mm tb

i take the car for a hard run first, second, third to redline
got out of it to do a u-turn notices a tapping noise i pull over to check it out

now i have a tapping sound comming from the motor can not pinpoint it try using a long screw driver to lisen for the tapping sound to see if its in the head or the bottom-end

hard to tell

i just kicked out 3900 bucks for vortec supercharger now this :bang:
i am not sure what the hell to do now that i broke the bank on the charger thats in the mail

the tapping sound can not be heard at idle but when u give it gas the tapping noise increases with the rpms
the tapping sound is not very loud at all but its there

i am thinking a valve has gone south or something

any advice plzs guys i am pissed:mad:

only good thing is it happen here near my house and not at the track with a blower on the car

i checked the oil its fine and the car was not over heating or anything

If you just did the exhaust im gonna go with an exhaust leak. Bolts usually tend to back out with headers untill they have gone through a few heat cycles. Try and see if the header or midpipe bolts are loose anywhere. I really hope thats all that it is, that would suck if it were an engine issue.

hmm i installed the headers and mids 2 weeks ago i will look into that only reason i am thinking heads or motor is because when i had my probe gt i was spraying nitrous on it and burned a valve out it sounds the same way but like 50times louder

this fcking sucks man i cann't have a good run to save my life
finaly save the money for the blower i was going to install my self now i may have to return it and us the money for a bottom-end or a set of heads

Start with the simple stuff... check the exhaust and go from there.

I kinda know how you feel. I was planning on a few mods soon, and now today I have reason to think that my rear end is on its way out...

Good luck man.

when i get off work tomorrow i will start with checking the intake manifold then the headers for leaks

then i will check the sparkplugs

i will get an oil change with a thicker oil and see if any of that works

as for power loss i dont feel any lose of power

but i will also get a compression test just to get the basics out the way

i will keep you guys informed wish me luck

I bet it's one of the exhaust manifolds, if you just replaced them. When I put mine on, my old car, two days later I had a loud tap whenever on the throttle, and it was because the back passenger side two bolts would'nt stay tight. So I used lock-tight and never had another problem. It's easy for these things to get loose, trust me. Esp. if you just installed.

I don't see how adding exhaust and TB would create the need to run thicker oil. If I were you, I would disregard that advice, and look elsewhere. Think of guys running umpteen hundred horsepower still easily running 5w30.

I would check for a header bolt backing out or perhaps the header->midpipe flange nuts as well.

dam i love you guys
i got off work to late today to look at the car so i am on it in the morning and i pray you guys are rigth

hell i was thinking of canceling my order with mph on the vortecs because i was like fck now i have to replace the heads or bottom-end just to keep the car running

ps did not know that the header bolts backing out could cause a tapping sound like that

+1 gasket

clearance determines oil thickness a lot of times.

in the old days we ran a little loose mains and ran nitro 70.

not any more. lighter oil saves power and still holds the wedge. i run the dog piss out of mine and i can guarantee you 5w30 is good. 5800 rpm with 4.17" stroke = absurd velocities.

+1 for exhaust leak... I have the same headers as you, and I had the EXACT same problem shortly after installing them. In fact I would be willing to bet that the leak is on the back passenger side where the header bolts up to the head... at any rate I would almost be willing to gaurantee you that its an exhaust leak.

I would definitely check the plugs, I installed a X pipe and had the same ticking sound for about a week and blew it off as an exhaust leak, then I blew a plug out of the pass side head.....

Weird, I was actually thinking about that last night before I went to sleep... Haha, that bad... I think about threads on SN when im not on it.
