I've got a v3 sci vortech supercharger spinning at 51,169rpm, 7.5psi I want to pulley down to 53,960. The blower is rated at 52,000. How big of a deal is this 1,900 rpm overage? The motor and the fueling can handle the higher pressure. This is the self contained oil unit and have read that overspinning them can cause the oil slinger to let lose, but that was guys going way over. Just trying to gauge what kind of risk this is to determine if I want to take it or not. I don't race it, it's a street car so it would very rarely see that hypothetical max.

From what I am reading on their website the max rpm for a V3 sci is 53,000 and a V3 si is 52,000 rpm.

Other than that I have no idea but thought that needed to be addressed.

I’ll preface this with I don’t know what I’m talking about, but if the max impeller speed you’re calculating is just above stock max impeller rpm, but you don’t really plan on spinning it that fast (engine redline?) then I can’t see it being an issue besides just a little more wear and tear on your head unit from normal use. Sounds like it’ll give you more usable power down lower in the rpm range.

Interesting. I must have missed that as I did look at that.
That is great news, I also called Vortech and spoke with the support guys. They said officially that is the limit. Unofficially, they know of people spinning them to 59k and they are still in one piece. They also said that they themselves may, possibly, be overspinning also. It makes sense that if I'm not racing, I'm functionally just pushing the boost lower in the rpm range. They added most of the damage you see from overspinning is sustained overspinning, so a burnout contest or frequent racing pulls.

Even when I'm driving spiritedly, I'm not taking it to 6k anyway, only for testing. I've never been on a drag track. I'm going to go for it. Was thinking on 2.75. they say every .1 is a psi, but if I'm now going out of the effency zone, that may be less......2.60, 2.65, 2.70, 2.75? These griptech pulleys are not cheap so would rather not have to buy multiples.

Anyone with experience on this head unit?
