VT Stage II's and Springs

I have a chunk of change stashed aside and plan on blowing it all ASAP. Looking to purchase the above mentioned parts - VT Stage II cams and Beehive Springs for the cat listed below in my sig. For all of you guys that are familiar with teh retailers of teh interwebz, where can I acquire said parts for cheapest. Have set aside $1200.00 for install, parts and tune.

Take a look at HiTech stage II cams. For the longest time I was going to get the CMS (VT) stage II cams untill I found HiTech and red about them. My cams came in this week so I can't tell you from personal experince (not installed yet) but they should perform a little better then the CMS stage IIs.

I see a lot of rep online from people who rarely know how to install cams much less compare the two - in all your reading have you found why yet?

Edit: And i know we're all going to try to rep our own purchases - but since this IS a tech thread. How about some reasoning; hopefully pointing at peak numbers from a 2-3 cases won't encompass this reasoning either.

If I may, I'll post up my direct experiences so far. The dyno sheet i'm putting on i'm cutting off because of a tuning irregularity after 5200 or so - I'll post of the new one when i do it but may end up needing a wideband for datalogging first.

These are all on SAE smoothing 5. Notice the peak and gradual (sometimes sporadic) drop after 4k on the hitechs, yet on my graph it's just starting @ 4k and looking like a flat line.

For your application, don't go with Hitechs. Hitechs improve power under the stock curve, and the power peaks are before or at the stock cams. You will want cams that extend the power curve and upper rpm power so your cams match the power curves of your other mods(manifolds, cams, headers, gears). With your nitrous, you will want as much exhaust duration and lift as possible.

Don't go with beehive springs for VT Stg 2, as they can't hold as much lift, in simple terms. Go with Manley or Crowers.

Wow - thanks for the info guys. I like the fact that VT's have a robust peak and then flatline. Where can the best prices be found on these parts?

It's not a robust peak - it's just my car finally getting to WOT at that RPM, since it's an auto and would downshift if given WOT earlier. And the graph Scup posted would look much more flat if it was squished down vertically like my graph is.

I'd look on corral.net for someone selling a set for a deal.

I bought my cams and valve springs straight from Cushman Motorsports website. Jim Cushman recommended Manley Nextex springs over the comp behive springs for the stage 2 cams.

Below is my dyno sheet......

Yes I had major drivability issues without a dyno tune. The car surged at low speeds under light load and stalled when I would come to a stop. After the dyno tune the car drove much better without any stalling or surging.

As for mpg’s I couldn’t tell you. It’s not my daily driver so I don’t keep track.
