Wanna Remove power steering all together.

Just wondering what is all envolved for those who already did this. I know i should of did this when i had the engine out alot eiaser to install a new Manual Rack. But to late now. Anyways....... my question is i dont have a/c and smog pump so i know the Acc. Bracket on the driver side can come off, but about the other bracket on the passenger side holding the alternator and only the alternator, just wondering if i get rid of this acc. bracket what do i need to get to have a alternator and do i still need a belt tensior ect. Thanks

well the flamming river manual rack is a breeze. just rip everything that is connected to your power steering off, rack, cooler, pump, lines, etc. then install the flamming river. I would suggest spending the extra money and getting the complete kit with the steering shaft though, part # FR1892D Gets rid of the sloppy stock shaft. You can get just the FR1892 but I believe that comes with just the adapter nuckles not the steering shaft.

As far as the brackets go. I personally bought a march bracket kit because all i run is the alt, water pump, and crank pulleys. here is a picture of the brackets. http://www.geocities.com/skiboyracing/engine.html

Dont you have to switch you the Fox setup to run that March bracket?

As for ripping off the PS bracket and all that, its simple. The rack comes out from the bottom so the motor isnt in the way anyway. The hardest part is taking the PS lines loose from the rack, but its nothing too bad. I took my PS bracket off after everyone said the belt setup wouldnt work and the car would overheat because the belt doesnt make a lot of contact with the water pump pulley. I did have to switch back to the stock water pump pulley but I have 1100 miles on my setup now and Ive had no cooling problems. You also have to relocate the ignition coil since it sits on top of the PS bracket. All said and done it turns out like this:

Yeah forgot to mention that used an 87-93 front timing cover and a 85 water pump with standard rotation so the belt is on the top side of the pulley. The March set up is a little cleaner IMO which is part of the reason I went that route. But is cost a few bucks and involves some extra work to do it. I've seen quite a few do it Dave95gt's way with the same results. it would definetly be cheaper.

I started doing it with the Fox setup but the water pump was too close to the fan for me.

yup, and like I mentioned, use an older water pump with a standard rotation (clockwise) so that the belt can run on the top side of the pulley. I used the chrome summit one with 30% more flow part # SUM-313001 but the SUM-313002 is the same thing but isn't chrome and it's cheaper.

Yeah.. you'll need the timing chain cover. I ordered my bracket kit from summit racing. http://www.marchperf.com/pg30.html and you can see what you want then just order it from summit.. I think they were a bit cheaper. I have the ultra's on mine and you can see in the picture the polished finish.. it looks better in person though as my camera isn't the best.

Anybody thats removed the power steering for a flamming river manual rack, how difficult is it to steer the car at low speeds? I've been thinking about doing this because my power steering pump is making noise and will need replaced sometime. But I use my car as an occasional daily driver, pretty much every day that the weather is nice. I used to have an 85 RX-7 with manual steering and I loved it, but the Mustang is a bigger, heavier car so Im not sure how it would be. Is it something you could live with every day?

I honestly haven't gotten mine going yet, but sitting still with no motor in it, it was surprsingly easy. Haven't tried it with the motor and tranny in, but i'm sure it will be like every other manual steering car i drove, a little tough sitting still, but once the tires move I have to believe it will be fine. I've talk to some who say you can't hardly notice it. I know flamming river makes a quick ratio for the fox bodies, I believe it's less turns to full rack and is easier. I thought they had it for 94-98 's but not sure.
