Hi guys,

I want to go for a minimum 12.5" front brake kit for my 04 281SC. I bought my car without the Saleen 13" brake kit. Saleen wants something like $1,250 for them. What's the best thing to do here?

Rough installation cost?

Thanks,

Vince

Baer has a basic 13" kit for about $700 + install.

There are also Brembo & Willwood options.

You could go with 14" fronts if you want (and want to pay that).

There are lots of options limited only by your budget desire on this project. What kind of bottom line were you looking to stay under?

Go brembro, the baer kit's Use the same calipers as the cobra does, nothing special other than the fact that the engraving looks extravegant.

Brembro is the setup to have.

saw this on ebay, makes me want them.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7980647451&category=33564

Check your fitment, but it should work. If i already had 94+ spindles on my fox, i would of purchased them already.

Well, Baer does have several kits.

You could always go with a monoblock 6-piston 14" kit

Isn't that kit like $2000 just for the fronts?

They also look like brembro calipers is that true?

If anyone wants the FRPP 2000 cobra R kit shoot me an e-mail. I can put you in touch with someone who has them at good prices.

The Saleen kit that is offered now is the same kit offered through Ford Racing from the 2000 Cobra R. Saleen just attached their name two it and a price mark-up.

Sy, a couple posts up i linked you to the auction on ebay, not sure you are going to find brembros any cheaper than that.

Saleen MIke, i called baer today (to feed my curiosity) and the 6 pistons in your pic are now manufactured by baer themselves, the 4 pistons (they aren't going to use anymore) were all alcons.

The Saleen / brembos are a great kit for the front, plus they were optional for your car. My saleen did not come with the brake kit, but I installed the saleen brakes and they work great!

For the rears, the best upgrade in my opinion is to cobra specifications with a Brembo slotted rotor. Ford sells the bracket kit needed, you just need that and the rotors, you reuse your stock caliper. Very good upgrade as well, and cheap.

I am also in the market for new brakes.

OK, so for my clarification......

The FRPP 2000 Cobra R kit, is the Brembo kit sold through Ford.
The Saleen it is the same Brembo kit, but with the Saleen name on the calipers.
The basic Baer kit uses regular Cobra (not R) calipers

Am I correct on this? If so, I think I will lean towards the Saleens. A couple extra hundred to have Saleen brakes on a Saleen seems worth it to me.

I was under the impression (and told by ford) that the pad bracket is NOT sold seperately and that's the part that needs to be changed to accomadate cobra (vented) rotors because they are wider.

For rears that is.

Below is a picture of mine. I got all 4 wheels with drilled/slotted rotors, 13" front, for about $1000. I could even choose the color of caliper and of the marking (cobra, saleen...). Can't beat that!

Looks great, where did you buy all four for $1,000?

Thanks,

Vince

Problem here is that you didn't get $1000 worth of product, Those are just PBR calipers and different rotors.

You can get the calipers anywhere for $200 per pair.
I've even seen them go new on ebay for about $150 per set.

They are the cobra/mach one setup.

(not iinsulting you, they look great, but aren't worth $1000)
