hi i just bought a 93 Mustang LX with a 4 in it. i am not the best when it comes to cars other people are in my family lol but i want to put a new engine in to it to go fast lol and i have been looking at a lot of forums and it seems to drop a 5.0 in there is just tuns of money is there a way to do so but keep a good budget i am willing to spend but i am young with a family lol well hope you guys can help

Hi,

Cheapest way of more power is to drop in a 2.3 Turbo engine from a SVO or a TC. You would need the a sutiable ECU like the LA3, wiring harness (or re pin yours), FMIC and a few other things.

Theres plenty of write ups on that swap on other Mustang forums out there.

Good luck!

For the sake of us who do have SVOs......don't use one as a donor. The Merkur and Turbo Coupe people get cranky when those cars are suggested as donors, but at least there are still a lot more of them than the SVOs. I partly blame this "cannibalism" on the 2.3 being such a rotten engine for trying to get NA power out of.

That said, probably the most cost-effective way to get more than the factory rated power out of a '93 2.3NA is to pull it out and replace it with a 2.3T. Another option might be a late '90s 2.5 from a Ranger. I don't know what the nuances of a swap would be, but I do know that it's a dual plug/mass air/EDIS engine and it actually is a decent for being NA. There is also the more project-oriented Duratec, but conversion bellhousings are not cheap.

just buy a wrecked 5.0l mustang and you got everything you need there.... buy a gasket set and replace all the gaskets and maybe have the heads done....if you want change the bearings and and rings and if you didnt do anything else CHANGE THE OILE PUMP!!lol Thats what i did on my first mustang if you have the donor car there is nothing else you need....thats my 2 cents

oh and its very straight forward i think the only thing i had to do was change th position of the cross member...theres tons of forums how to do the swap
