WANT SOME IDEAS ON MOTOR SETUPS

i recently have decided that im gonna be building a motor for my 90 lx. at first i thought it would be fairly easy but theres soo much new stuff out an so many different setups that can be done. what i need help on is this, i know im using a new boss block so it will have to be finished at a machine shop before any thing further. but goin from that what would you guys do? like i said its goin in my 90 lx which i drive on the street an 10.5:1 is probably the highest i can go on compression an being able to spray. should i go331? 347? what kind of heads? it must be a roller cam but what one?

any of you guys have a setup up similar? any videos of your car with that setup?
all i know is i would really like as close as i can get to 450rwhp as possible, but with the lower compression i know its nearly impossible. please help me out and thanks

oh, as for trans an clutch. tko600/ spec stage 2plus is what i had in mind. but speak your mind an thanks alot! :SNSign:

Is the car going to be more of a weekend car or a DD?

High compression, custom cam, Twisted Wedge heads/matching intake, enough strength to run 7000rpm.

My buddy's stock-block 347 is all Eagle internals with forged pistons, custom cam, Systemax intake and all the necessary intake stuff to go with it, Edelbrock Victor Jr heads with 2.05/1.60 valves, a T56 and 3.73s. It just came out of the garage for the first time about a month ago and still needs tuned but it's already nasty as hell on the street.

im goin with a CHP 331 shortblock with the trickflow h/c/i. compression should be right around 10.5:1 which is about all you want for the street. i wont be anywhere near your power expectations, probly around 350 to the wheels with a good tune. but its gonna be nasty on the street i promise

sorry about the wait. the car will be more of a weekend car but i would like it to be able to be a dd if need be for a short period of time. thanks guys an keep em comin

With the Boss block you can easily go with a 347 combo, BUT, do it with the 331 stroke crank and get the extra 16 cubes by going larger bore. This has 2 positive effects. First you do not get the side loading on the piston skirts and cylinder walls with the typical stroke of 3.4" for a 347. Second, by going with the big bore, you un-shroud the valves from the cylinder walls. This leads to better air flow and cylinder filling from the heads, plus you have the extra cubes.

thanks alot bullit! i really appreciate it alot! i was thinkin that setup with CHI cleveland heads which come in at 2.05 intake 1.65 exhaust with a cam like the anderson motorsport b451 i believe it is. its around 570 lift both intake an exhaust side with 1.6 roller rockers. doing a little research i found out that edelbrock now makes an intake to do that an essentially build a boss 302. its claimed to be good from 1500-6500rpms and is called the E BOSS. could i make the power i would like or close to it with that kinda setup? would it be better to go AFR185s? any ideas anyone? you guys rock thanks an keep the ideas comin!

If you are going to NA you could still go with the 347 crank and rods with a 4.125 bore and end up at 363. Your questions are the same ones I had a year ago. Do your self a favor and get with a professional. I went with ( Rick_91GT ) www.RNHPerformance.com for my engine. He probrably spent 3 hours with me over several phone calls to answer all my questions, and this was just covering the merits of different builds. If I was going to stay NA, I would have went with a 363, but I knew I wanted boost again down the road, so we went with what is in my sig. Good luck

thanks bob ill deff give them a call. thought about 363 but i dont think i would wanna being that i want to make sure the block will last knowing its gonna cost me about 2500 bucks after machining. its just a matter of choosing a big bore 347 with 331 crank like stated uo there ^ or actual 347. either way thanks for the advise. blkstang i would throw a mtach on it if it was a 4.6 lol. keep em comin guys!

If your set on a boss block, cool, but I have seen the Dart 8.2 deck blocks go to 382 cu in i think. Im not positive but I think the numbers are some thing like 3.55 crank, maybe the 5.4 rod still, and a 4.155 bore. There are a couple of builders on various sites developing stroker kits for stock & aftermarket blocks that go well past 347. Im sure if you talk to Rick he fix you up.

i was set on the boss for it being 4 bolt main on the center 3 main caps an screw in freeze plugs. you can go up to 363. ive heard good things abiut dart but the man of war block i though was the only block that they make with 4bolt mains...it having all 5 mains with 4bolts. but its another grand on top of the price of the boss. they make the sportsman too but isnt that only a two bolt main? i need something strong to handle a healthy shot of spray or good boost. not sure on what one just yet. thanks again.

Drop a 351 in and be done. Will eat a 5.0 or 347 and have room to grow.

Dart sportsman has 4 bolt mains except for end cap. Rated for 1200-1500 hp. Ill try and find a pic of the bottom of the block to post for ya.

boss block is overkill for 450hp regardless of spray or not.

A 347 will be quicker than a 351, assuming the same topend pieces.

A BOSS block is not overkill, if you are looking for 100% reliability.

Really, I would get a DART over a BOSS.

Longer skirts and thicker block.
