Me and nick were cracking up at you for that . Nick goes Scott said he didn't cut and Buff the moulding . I said really I don't think anyone is gonna notice it and that's when he told me what the judges had said when they tallied up the car

I actually have hung out with Adam on a few occasions and he's a cool dude for sure. I can promise that his car hasn't seen street duty let alone the liquor store in quite a number of years though ;)
In all honesty I was a little disappointed that we were never invited to make dyno pulls... I'm more than confident that 1500+ would have easily been layed down and some procharger fans would have been seriously disappointed :cool::p
 
I'm not personally impressed when they strap a full blown race car to a dyno and make a big deal about the numbers. Of course a 7.XX car is going to put down 1100+ HP. Show me one (like yours) that can do that and then roll off the dyno and pick up dinner at the drive thru. Now that's cool! I think if it needs to be trailered home, it shouldn't be allowed in a dyno competition.
 
I just went through all 120 pages of this thread - I have no idea how I not only missed this thread - but also missed this car this last weekend at the AM show.
Just an amazing build - not just for a fox body, and not just for a mustang - this build is 99% more impressive than what I'll see in booths at SEMA.
Hats off man - just gorgeous.
 
I would not let a "snub" from a bunch of car show Nazi's bother you. If they don't like it F*** them. You know what went into the car and if they don't see it, it says a lot about them, not you or the car. Car show stuff is all about who you know and who is putting the show on. Saw too many times the Judges predetermine who was going to "win" ahead of time. That is why I don't much care for the car show scene. One wonders how many of the other "show" cars had all of the work done by the owners. Not many I would bet. Mad props to you for the hrs upon hrs spent that even those of us following this thread do not see.
 
The problem with car shows is that they dont appreciate cleanliness, the winner is always the loudest looking car with a chrome coil cover and blue wire loom, they want things to stand out, not be subtle and clean. With as understated as your car is it can be hard for the car show crowd to appreciate it.
 
Madmike1157.... That red car is awesome. I enjoyed talking to you and looking over your car a couple years ago at myrtle beach. I had the svo blue pearl 1989 gt convertible with the ten point cage, fiberglass fenders and IRS rear. The metal fab work is unbelievable on the red car.

Thanks for the kind words. The red car is gone. Has been for years. The new car will make the red car look like a red ....................headed step child.
 
You guys are definitely right about how car shows can be sometimes. I was still quite happy to walk away with something though. There were 3500 cars there and about two dozen trophies given out, so some 3475 people drove out with nothing except less fuel in their tanks. Good day in my book.

I did learn that people, judges included, don't want to hunt for information at shows. They want the details of your car spoon fed to them. The show board will really come in handy for that, especially if there is a picture of the car on the rotisserie there somewhere. The people I did get a chance to talk to about the car were really blown away by it, so that was very cool.
 
I got a pretty decent picture of the car last night while the photographer was doing his thing. It's impressive what a cell phone can do when you have a clean background and some nice, natural light.

So the car does have a bit of an issue. The fuel is overheating. It didn't happen until we were doing the rolling shots Sunday night. I heard the fuel pump get louder as the car was idling. We drove another few miles and then I saw the wideband light up like a Christmas tree. The engine went fully lean. I pulled over immediately and shut it down, but I didn't take notice if I lost fuel pressure. I put my hand on the fuel pump and it was so hot that I couldn't keep my hand there for a few seconds. I let things cool down for a bit and the car started back up fine. The pump was still a little loud. We went to a parking lot to do the still shots, so the car had about 2 hours to cool down. When I primed the pump after that, everything sounded normal.

What I need to figure out is if the pump is overheating and making the fuel hot or if the fuel is getting too hot and is making the pump overheat.

Here are my thoughts:

I have braided stainless PTFE (teflon) fuel lines. There is no thick piece of rubber line, just a thin piece of tube with steel braids around it. I wonder if the steel braids are picking up too much radiant heat in the engine bay and transferring that into the PTFE tubing. Switching to nylon lines in the bay may help.

The fuel lines are near the mufflers. I have them wrapped in a aluminum sleeve, but I may need insulation and a heat shield in that area.

The lines in the engine bay may also benefit from some insulation, even with switching to nylon. That PTFE has nothing to protect it from heat. My engine bay gets incredibly hot.

I have a friend with a Flir infrared camera. I'm going to try to swing by his house this week and start shooting temps to see how hot things are getting. That will give me a good idea of if the pump is getting hot before the fuel does. I think it's a fuel heat issue though.

The feed comes from the driver side wheel well, under the brake booster into a Y and then along the firewall into the back of the rails. The returns come out the front of the rails, loop to the firewall into a Y and then across the passenger valve cover to the regulator behind the strut tower into the passenger wheel well.

This line works about 50% of the time. :nice:

Not sure if serious... What aside from circulation, would be heating the fuel? Of course it's the pump. We see something along these lines what... once a year at least.

All that fuel is being pumped through the rails and returned to the tank. Over and over and over and over.... What's the flow rate on that pump? How much of that fuel are you actually using at idle and cruise? Heat soaking the whole time?

With quite a reserve of fuel left in the tank it is not likely that the fuel got so hot that the pump was heat soaked by the fuel, insulation issue for the fuel lines or not. I've seen plenty of fuel systems installed laying on hot components under the hood and throughout the car without issue. I have seen on plenty of occasions fuel pumps over heating and having issues. When a fuel pump is dead headed (low or no fuel usage) there is no fuel to cool the pump, I run into situations like this all the time with building hvac systems and especially split case pumps ( @MikeH686 knows what I'm talking about there). What size return line is on the pump and just how much fuel is it designed to flow? I've had to install on many cases a return line equal if not bigger than the supply line to remedy similar problems. Up until last year we were using a step down controller on my big Weldon pump to keep it from overheating while street driving. It basically pulses the ground signal to slow the pump speed and reduce heat created while large amounts of cool fuel are not present.
