Hey, I have been exeriencing a small but annoying issue as of late and looking for a little input. I am running the componenets in my sig, and have NO issues to speak of except for an intermittent stalling issue during stop and go driving. Every so often the car will stall out when i depress the clutch when coming to a stop..more often if I am at higher rpm (2000-2500) when the pedel is depressed. This does not occur until driven at running temp for 15 minutes or more. Also during warm starts the car seems to find a problem stabalizing the idle and wants to surge up and down trying to find it's happy place..half the time it does...other times again stall out. I attribute this to the cam vs. computer, but I'm wondering if anyone has an idea as to possible solutions..maybe previous experience. As it sits the idle on cold start will hold a bit raised for 10 seconds (as it should) then fall nicely to 850-950. There is no hanging idle..bliping the throttle regardless of running temp or time, while at rest results in the idle falling right back to it's propper setting. I can't see raising the idle any higher as the car performs perfectly 85-90% of the time...it's just the intermittent stall issue I'd love to do away with.

should add...timing is set at 14*, fuel pressure is 40psi, all codes are in check, and all vaclines are new..there seems to be no vaccume leak issue. Egr along with all other sensors and solenoids are new as well. I will just add that since I have just finished the initial break in period I gave myself of 500 miles...the car runs like a son of a bi#ch...little soft down low..but just hauls a** when the rpms get up there...I am VERY pleased with it so far...

I had a similiar problem with my car. It was the IAC or whatever it is called. It is located on the the side of the throttle body. It is a long clyinder located towards the front. I ended up replacing mine with a new throttle body but before that I took it off and cleaned it out with carb cleaner. I saw a big improvement. If that doesn't work try checking the voltage on the TPS.

How is your voltage when the car stalls? In one of my older mustangs, I had an issue with stalling and it turned out to be a bad ground wire. When I would press the clutch, the voltage would drop and the computer wouldn't have enough juice to fire the injectors....

I thought about that too, but voltage is good..all grounds are new and anchored well with paint removed underneath. Alt and alt wires are new as well...hasn't done this untill the last few trips, and it's not acting up consistantly..let it cool for a half hour, and it starts perfectly and runs perfectly...untill things get heated up again..temps never getting over 190 on my autometer gauge.

Looking over your parts list I can't help but think the reason may have something to do with the fact we've converted SD cars to mass air..no idea how..but possibly with the VSS sensor, or somthing related, maybe even cam/vac issues...could be wrong though, been wrong many times before. Only thing I find strange is how intermittent the problems is..much easier to tackle is it was more consistant. Keep the ideas coming guys..your input is greatly appreciated.

Derek, no great ideas from me. But you will get the usual two cents (might be Canadian currency though ):

The VSS not holding the rolling idle had occurred to me too.

Secondly, are you sure the EGR (if you even have one) is shutting down when you let off the pedal? If you were cruising at 2000+ RPM (where EGR could be operational) and hit the clutch and fell to a rolling idle, but the EGR stayed functional, that could cause stalling.

Sorry to not have better ideas bud. Good luck.

Hey JT that's not a bad theory at all..I do have the EGR in place as well as all of the smog..less the pump (must have fallen off ) I will really give that a look and see tomorrow. Thanks JT, and everyone else...just have to try one thing at a time..eventually and hopefully it will come to light.
Derek.
