Washington State Front License plate

Only having one plate means they produce half the place reducing cost where they can spend money elsewhere like road maintenance ...

Some cars don't have brackets on their bumpers ... etc ... Read the initiative on that forum. :nice:

it was my understanding that cars that do not come with holes in the bumper or a license plate frame from the factory are not required to have front license plates... ie corvettes

I didn't know how this law was going to manifest itself. I hope you are correct. If they maintain dispensation for "rural" areas, we should be fine. If they use the spot-check technique as done in Cali... we are in trouble. The law passed though.

Passed? Maybe this is a different law, I'd swear it was only a couple weeks ago this guy was coming around looking for signatures.

I don't believe there have been cars made since the 60's probably that do not have some form of a front license plate bracket system. In the case of Corvettes -- they have a removeable cover in the front of the car. Without a plate there is an insert there that covers up the area and blends it in more.

Ok now I am confused.

Are you talking about the smog nazi thing or the license plate thing?

I can assure you that the license plate thing has not been approved. I got a ticket for it about two months ago.

I must say though, you guys get props. I posted this on clubsi.com and dsmtuners.com and both sites really did not seem adamant about signing. go figure.

FYI, there is a clause in the RCW that states that if the vehicle does not have the means to attach a license plate to the front of the vehicle, it can be inspected and approved by the State Patrol. I called the State Patrol about it and they told me that they have not issued such a waiver in ten years and have absolutely no intention of doing it again. For example, my rabbit, the front plate bracket is no longer available from the dealer. I was instructed to buy used (not possible, its a show car), make one, or drill holes in my bumper.

The R32 (3.2l narrow angle, single head, VR6, AWD) does not come with a front plate or bracket. The dealer has been drilling holes in peoples brand new 28k$ golfs to comply. Not right IMHO, as it devalues the vehicle should it be sold in another part of the US that does not require a front plate.

You only get 1 plate (for the rear) when you have collector car plates!

They must have changed that since I got mine. I got them for my '65 bus about 7 years ago and I got a pair.

Little known fact: If you provide plates for the vintage vehicle that correspond with the issue year and the year of the vehicle, they can be reassigned to that vehicle in the form of collector plates. If you happen to "lose" one of the pair, then you are issued one plate for the vehicle that also happens to be old school. I.E. green lettering, no background, no dash, white background. Same with '63 plates. It is also legal to apply vehicle year corresponding tabs to these plates.

I just remembered that a lot of Mercedesies (<--kekeke) come without front license plates
Its the dealers that put the fronts on so if you get a new mercedes you can tell the dealer that you dont want the front plate on. As for the petition ill sign it but i havent obeyed the law and the cops have only harrased me once so to me its not that big of a deal. Plus i dont even have a front plate :owned:
