Water found on both sides of trunk? WTF!

I removed the trunk liner from my '95 and found 4" of water in that side pocket area that would be below the gas fill inlet. Same on the other side too

Put a hose to it all around the trunk/rear window/tails and didn't notice it coming in anywhere. Any ideas, is this a common thing?

wheel wells, especially behind the wheels where water gets splashed. Or vert top if you have a vert??

i have this same problem except only on the drivers side (its a coupe) im thinking about replacing the weatherstripping but it dosent look like its in bad shape

i usually suck it up with a shop vac after i wash the car (weekly) sometimes its bone dry and others its full

i had a nearly invisible crack near at the base of the driver's side hinge for the trunk. It was letting in water, which was dribbling down, soaking the carpet and collecting in the side pocket. Check and see if your carpet is wet. If so, try putting some black RTV around the hinge base. I also had a bit of leaking around the trunk vent, behind the driver's side taillight. Some more RTV there sealed that up.

Other than that, you'll have to experiment. First, dry everything in the trunk. You're looking for where the water is coming in, so if it's all dry and then it's wet, you've found the leak. Take a garden hose and run water in the channel around the weatherstripping. Keep running it and check for any drips under the hinges. Also check in the trunk around the taillights and that vent next to the driver's taillight.

That should get you started.

Random somewhat related note. If you arleady have your trunk apart for the love of all sn95 Mustangs. Clean out these pockets...

Yes that is a picture of all the dirt that had built up on ONE SIDE ALONE. Not much water gets back there but any that does should be able to drain out. All that dirt = no drainage = rust problem, and in a area that would be a bitch to fix at that.amnit:

i have a vert with water management problems.

right behind the back window there is a place where water is supposed to drip off the top and get routed back outside. too bad it doesn't work with my top.

the passenger side leaks near there and the water goes into the trunk. i haven't figured out how to fix this one yet.

on the driver's side, the drops are close, but they fall about 1/2 inches behind where they are supposed to and it ends up under the carpet where the rear passenger's feet go. i can route it to the right place with a piece of plastic, but if i forget to take it out before i put the top down, it falls down into the drain and i can't get it out.

not sure if yours is a vert or not, but it may help someone...

I'm guessing it's coming from above vs. wheel wells since it has not been driven on wet roads in 6-7 years.

mine has huge cracks on the side in them channels really bad around the hinge. don't tink rtv will fix it its so bad so i'm thinking about fiberglassing it

how did the cracks get there, rust?

I have no freaking idea it was like that whan i bought it and never really took notice to it till my tools were getting wet while i was working in it. the cracks are like the whole way down the channel and you can see where they tried to ghetto RTV it
