I have installed a Eaton Posi Locker, Ford Racing 373 Gears, all new bearings etc. and trying to now check my wear pattern. I attempted doing this according to Richmond website and here is some pix of what I came up with. I shimmed the pinion with the factory shim and checked it with a pinion depth tool and it came out 4.420. I then installed carrier with shims identical in thickness to factory and my backlash came out to be .010. All seems well except the wear pattern doesnt seem to me to match the ideal pattern according to Richmond's website. What do you all think that have installed gears??? Maybe it is just me so please look at the pix and let me know. This is my first time to post pix so I included them on a file attachment and I am not sure if they will work so if not, please help me get them posted. Thanks.

I forgot what the Ford SVO directions on pinion depth are, is the 4.420 the desired number?

If it is correct for that gear set, the pattern should hit in the desired area of the ring gear, and moving the ring left or right should get it deeper or less deep into the ring.

I have used the factory pinion shims on several 7.5's and its worked every time. On the 8.8, with new Motive Gears, I had to shim and check 4 or 5 times or so to get it decent.

Can anybody tell me by looking at the pix if something is wrong and needs changing. What will happen if the pinion depth is right, preload is right, backlash is right, but wear pattern is off?
