Weather strip question

Hi, I have a 88 notch that Im tryin to restore the looks of it alittle. I was wondering what people have done to restore the looks of the weather stripping(molding) around the side quarter windows. I have looked into replacing the glass itself but 600 bux each window is a lot. My molding/weather stripping isn't to bad but its not new looking either. So replacing it is like throwing something usable away. Ive also thought about painting it black when i paint my car but im not sure how it will look/hold up. Any tips on how i can make this look better??

Sure clean it very very good then grab some Armor All extreme tire gel and go at it. You will have to reapply as needed but it's cheap and affective. The AA gel holds up well to rain so having it run down the paint isn't a big deal. Just wait 15 min after application and buff off any left over gel that hasn't soaked in.

if you are thinking about painting the car i would not use any AMOUR ALL at all. it contains silicone that will make paint fisheye and make for a hard time to paint. if the car is already painted its ok. My suggestion is get a scuff pad (1$), a can of plastic adhesion promoter (5$), and a can of black satin (5$). scuff the rubber, spray adhesion promoter, spray black satin. cheap, easy, and will last for years.

If you don't want to repaint, clean it good and use a couple of applications of Back-to-Black by Mothers... works good on satin paints (like wipers), rubber, plastic trim, etc.

50resto.com makes covers for the rear quarter molding. Not sure how they work, or how they look. I guess they just stick on. Check them put. I bought all my weather stripping from them.
