Weiand 174 Draw thru SuperCharger

Anyone have experience with this setup? Just throwing around some ideas and am interested adding a power adder but I'm leaning toward this setup because of simplicity and being that it's not a blow thru unit.

This kit looks complete. I am wondering how much room there is for the dizzy, I run an MSD and it's pretty large. Hood clearance is obviously an issue and I'd probably run a scoop in the stock hood.

Any ideas what kind of power one of these will add? I think they put out 7psi.

I don't know which distributor and cap you have, but MSD does have lower profile caps (crab cap) and shorter distributors for Fords for use with a blower like the Weiand. The advertising in Summit's catalog says a 20 to 40 % increase in power.

iskwezm, What kind of problems are you having? Mine seems to be running fine after running a larger fuel return line so that I could keep the pressure below 10PSI. I spent yesterday getting the front end up using spacers so that I could actually drive it which is when all the unforseen problems will arise I'm sure.

well it runs good around town, but when you really get it past 6K rpm it falls on its face(sorta surges). I was told by a few people (carb builder)its running out of fuel, so I spent about $1400 bucks on a new fuel system(sump,pump,-10 lines, fittings etc.) and its no better. I know its a combination of carb/cam problems, but could also be my distirbutor too.It will light up the tires in the first 4 gears, but only to 55-6000 RPM. I know its capable of 500+ RWHP, but its not running good enough to see it.

Well its problably not the best way to S/C according to the people I have talked to but its a short term deal for me anyway since I plan on going ahead with the fuel injection this winter. I have only have $750.00 in my fuel system so I may be in worst shape than you. I think you are heading in the right direction though, it sounds as if its running out of gas..Strange. What is your boost gauge showing? Mine isnt showing but 4# and its a 9# unit.

What cam? solid roller, solid flat tappet? Not hyd roller is it?

Do you not have a wideband O2 sensor? If not..then why? Doesn't make sence to spend all that money on go-fast goodies then not be able to tune it. My LC1 only cost $200....a must in a forced induction motor IMHO.

get ready to rip me a new one,cuz i know you will:rolleyes:

My original cam was solid 112 LS with 264* and .589 lift, but it went flat. the guys must have got tired of me bugging them for a replacement so they gave me a off the shelf Isky same lift and duration but a 108 LS, I know its for a N/A high compression engine, but i need a cam and I know they screwed me pretty much on that end. Its so pig rich from the overlap that I cant get it to run right and never will until i replace it.

off the head its about 10 psi, at the carb its about 7 psi

valve springs?
I hope not, they were all tested and the heads were gone through.........AGAIN

because the carb guys(that sell them) said why not spend the money on a fuel system, your gonna need it anyway,so i did

I do have a A/F guage it was off the lean side before when it got up in the rpm's. so i did the right thing first, but i will get a wideband soon(if my GF buys it for me)

My 408 will use a blow-through setup. My engine builder has done over 20 of them and has the jetting worked out quite well. He says that it's a lot easier tuning a blow through centrifugal supercharger than a turbo. If I had gone w/ a turbo, he was recommending a swap to efi. I like the simplicity of a carb for this project...but I will be installing a wideband to keep an eye on things.
