i just picked up an 89 Notch.

i'm doin an oil change and drained it
i then added 4 quarts with one in the filter
i check the oil and its way above full like a quarter of the stick
i drained it and still was full????
i pulled the dip stick tube and was not cloged up or anything even shot air down the tube.

is it the wrong dipstick>?

very appreciated,

I just went and measured my dipstick for you, mines a 93 lx 5.0. I measured only the shiny metal blade part of the dipstick that fits into the tube. It measured 23 inches end to end. Not from the part where your finger fits in to pull the dipstick out, only the peice that goes in the tube

I just found that out too. So i guess that means we have to make sure both are drained. I just bought my 5.0 2 months ago

Also note that some of the factory dipsticks are mismarked. WHen I have 5 quarts and an FL1A installed, I'm reading way above the full hash mark. After a proper oil change, I let the car idle to circulate the oil and let it sit overnight. Then I remarked my new "full with 5 quarts" mark on the dipstick.

Good luck.
