Weird sound coming from my 5.0

Anybody with a Fox, eyeball this one. I have a 92 5.0, and I am hearing this werid buzzing/whining sound coming from the back of my mustang. It is coming from the back of the car, behind the right tire. I think it might be the fuel pump. It sounds like it doesn't want to shut off or something. As soon as I start the car, you can hear it, and its annoying. I can't recall if it was always there and I just noticed it now, or if it has been there since I bought the car. Anyone have any experience with this noise? And does anyone know if it is harmful or just a noise that just happens with these cars? Thanks!

do you hear it when you turn the key to 'on' but dont actually start the car? the FP will prime for a couple seconds.

they are noisy, and in my experience, noisier when the tank is getting low on petrol.

good luck.

Mine was pretty loud - you can hear inside the car, and standing behind the car. Lift up the carpet and listen to the right of where the spare tire sits with the car running - the pumps right below there. I switched mine out to an aftermarket pump, and was much quieter. Folks often say a loud pump is getting ready to take a dump - dont' know if that's for real, or just an "old stanger's tale".

Petrol! - haven't heard that in a while - where do you hail from Hissin?
I am from the U.S., but i have been lucky enough to see a few places. That was a throw-back to a little time spent in New Zealand. :)

In regards to the fuel pump noise when they are going bad, I've heard this expression:

"First they talk, then they squawk, then you walk..."
you forgot the part after squawk where you say, "Ah F..."
:D
