Jesse, sounds like you need a new belt or idler pulley to me.

Now I can hear all the time. It sounds like it is coming from the idler pulley or water pump. Its sound like a whistle/squeak sound almost like a supercharger. This might be a stupid question but does the middle bolt on the idler pulley suppose to spin with the idler pulley? What should I look for when I check the belt for wear and the idler pulley?

No, the idler pulley bolt isn't supposed to spin with the idler pulley. Fix that, see if the sound goes away. If not start poking around with a stethescope or a wood dowel. Start at the idler pulley (most obvious source of unusual behavior), then check all pullied accessories.

I just replaced the idler pulley in my '95, here's a link. There are pictures in the side bar link gallery. Click on the pictures to expand them. www.classicsandperformance.com/projectgtch3.html

Dont forget the smog pump, if you have one. The vanes are on an eccentric plane and can bind and scrape the walls when it is cold out. once warm, they unbind and the noise goes away or diminishes a good bit. Dont ask how I know. :bang:

As mentioned, a mech's stethoscope should make quick work of it.

Both the stationary idler (with the torx bit fastener) and the tensioner's idler should be tight. Those pulleys' bearings do wear.

Good luck.

well i was messing around a bit and notice when i rev it at idle the sound will get louder.I cant determine if it is coming from the idler pulley or the water pump.
I called autozone they have a idler pulley for $16 should i get it or get a better one?

I would personally go to www.50resto.com and get the original Motorcraft piece for about the same price.
