I have a 1999 GT with the non intercooled vortech S trim s/c kit on it. I recently fabbed up a large front mount intercooler and piping.

When it was all connected and i tried to run it, the bypass valve would open and close rapidly and cause the engine to run crappy and die. It does this at all load ranges and boost ranges.

The bypass valve dumps right back into the intake tube before the supercharger like vortech had it. It is a DRAW - THRU system just like vortech's normal setup.

...even stranger, When put back to the origional vortech pipe, everything works fine.

So my question is, why does adding about 3 extra feet of piping and an intercooler cause this?

Thanks for any help, This one has me scratching my head good...

BTW, I tried feeding the bypass valve from both before and after the intercooler with the wild thought that maybe having it after the IC was creating a pressure wave that had the right frequency to perpetually increase in force. Thus making the valve open and close quickly.

does it dump back into the EXACT spot as the original?? you could be backwashing your MAF. i did that when i put my IC on. i got a power pipe and moved it closer to the s/c and it is fine. also your BPV should be open at idle. mine is like a hair dryer when it is idling. check your vacume to the BPV.

Everything on the front side of the s/c is EXACTLY like vortech had it.

I drove the car today with the stock vortech pipe on it and it runs fine. So the valve is fine. And I checked vac lines, clamps.... all the stupid things I could have forgotten. Still nothing.

...still scratching my head.

It sucks having $600 in parts bolted up, staring at you going: F#%@ YOU!

From what I have read if you are still using the bosch bypass valve from the original kit its not heavy enough to handle the extra back pressure from the intercooler. Most I have seen use a vortech mini race.

Thanks man. I just got back from the junk yard searching for a 1G DSM BOV with no luck so it looks like i'm going to have to BUY one.
Anyone know of a good BOV for under $100?
