Hey guys, so i have a problem that maybe no one has ever run accross. So ive been having problems with a engine swap in a 1989 gt. The other day i jumped the distributor ahead one plug so i could advance the timeing futher and wahla.....the engine starts...i check the timing light and plug #1 is nowhere near TDC but the weird thing was that plug #3, the plug after plug #1 was right on TDC. So i pulled off the timing cover and the cam and crank are in the correct position....my question is what else would cause the car only to run that far advanced besides a bad timing chain?

Have you checked your harmonic balancer? Im thinking you might of spun the balancer. There is no way the car should run with timing that far off. I would pull the #1 plug and get it as close to TDC as possible and then check your timing marks.

Hey man thanks, there is no way i would have seen the rubber conection between the hermonic balancer counterwight and the unit that attaches to the crank.....i think that when my power spinning locked up it spun the counterwight out of place. Anyway it was way mor then 40 degrees off so i was still running retared on plug two.....ill post again when i get everything back together:nice:
