Have two kids that would ride in the back of a convertible at times. Would like to add some protection, but not make the rear seats un-useable (full cage). So I called CDC the other day that makes a light bar.

After discussing what I wanted to do, I asked the guy whether, after installation with the standard fasteners, could the thing also be tack-welded to the frame. He thought so, but had never heard of someone doing so.

So firstly, have any of you seen or done this?

Also, are any of you aware of rollover accidents that involved light bars and could comment how they held up?

Thanks

That is a ringing endorement there. I wouldn't bother welding a light bar in. There is not anything in that quarter panel to support the hoop. The light bar will fold like an accordian because it has no bracing like a roll bar. It is not constructed to provide protection and I would not fool yourself that it will.
Keep in mind a rollbar can be bolted in too ifit is done properly. It does not have to be welded in. It would not work without the rear braces though and the side bars provide additional support from collapse.

Thanks for the reply...

About the roll cage in your signature, does it impede access to the back seat or restrict front seat adjustibility in any way?
