I guarontee that its leaking because the thermostat is out of the groove. Its so hard to put it in when the intake is on. Try taking off the houseing and kinda keeping it in place with a couple beads of gasket make or sealer or something. So that it wont slide down when you are putting it on.

When I installed my GT40 intake mine slide down twice and leaked fluid all over the place. I was PISSED. Weird cuz i've replaced the tstat several times in the past and never had that problem.

Do you EVER have anything useful to say???

clang5oh, after your t-stat leak your probably ready to sell that car huh? Seems like you've had a lot of problems doing the intake swap.

OH, he did an intake swap, I couldnt tell by the opening post what was done.

Clang..I have had that leak too and it's a pain b/c you think youre all done.

Best thing to do is a SMALL THIN layer of RTV, tighten it up, and DONT turn the car on for a couple of hours. If you do, the RTV that is INSIDE the housing will NEVER dry and firm up properly.

Zach, is that useful enough for you?

RC was right in what he said. i was not clear in what i was talking about. i had just assumed that everyone would know what i am talking about cause of all the rants i have had in doing this intake install. i am about half tempted in taking the car in and trading it for an 04 f150, and just dumping all my money into the 69 Z/28.

did you guys put rtv on the housing and intake side and use a gasket?

Much better RC

I just used some gasketmaterial for mine and it sealed properly but I also did it when it was off of my car.

you know alot of this might have gone easier if my dad was here. he is the mechanic around here. if it is broke he can fix it, that include backhoe's track hoe's bull dozers and a 10 second 73 Z/28. he decided to go to florida while i did this.

Thanks!

About the RTV..When I did mine the first time, I gunked too much on..

1. it makes it slide around easer
2. it's harder to dry.

The was a slight amt of wetness under the housing after a month. I saw a drip or 2 on the water pump. Then, one night 3 weeks ago, it BUSTED under 10 PSI boost

When I pulled it off there was a THICK THICK layer of RTV that separated from the housing, and the fluid leaked from there.

When I redid it, I spread a THIN layer with my finger on the housing inside, the pushed the gasket into it. THEN, I let it sit for several minutes, THEN, I put the RTV on the gasket, spread it around thinly with my finger, and pressed it to the housing..OH, and I made sure the the intake side was buffed slightly with a scotch brite pad.

It has been 3 weeks so far without a drop coming out.

Good luck

Thanks RC, I just buffed the intake side and I think I am going to finish the way you did. Sounds like it should work pretty good for me.

If you havent put it on yet, SHOP VAC out the inlet really good too, for any powder residue. If it's on already, stick the vacuum over the water neck hole and do it that way.
