I set today aside to install the stuff I got from 50resto, which included an o/r H-pipe. All I've read is how easy this is, and how some people can do it in an hour, blah blah blah. Well I can't get the ****ing nuts off of the header flange bolts. After a lot of trouble I got one off, but the next two weren't playing around. One is impossible to get to, and after an hour of ****ing with it, I tried moving to the next one. I accessed the next bolt(top passenger) and proceded to make clean breaks through two different ratchet extensions trying to get the bastard free. Now I'm just pissed beyond belief cause I wanted this thing on today, and now I'm looking at all the shops being closed tomorrow, and having to go to school Monday.:notnice:

Nothing a cutting wheel on a grinder can't fix. Have you thought about cutting the old flanges right off the pipe? Thats what I had to do on my dad's old Dodge, but I actually had to use a dremel to cut through the flange half-way (due to tight clearances) and then used a big f*****g hammer and chizzel to get the flange off entirely. Took me about one hour to do both sides like this. What a major PITA :bang: , but, like you, I broke a socket and ended up stripping all the bolts before resorting to surgery.

Yep. Soak em the night before with PB and then again 5 mins before you start. An 18" breaker and they creeeeeeak like a mofo when they start to come off (or give you that nice snap where you know it either broke-loose or just plain broke).

Remember to put NEVERSEIZE on the threads upon the reinstall!

Good luck with it.

i just used an impact but still had a hell of a time, let em soak in wd-40 for a few mins and got the ol impact out and they came off with a little fight, still took me hours to do cus the pipe didnt fit very well, jegs pipe...
