without paying attention i grabbed the wrong socket and put it on the collector bolt with the impact gun, and i rounded the nut so now there is noway its coming off and its the only thing holding the passenger side header in place and i have no way to get a saw in there to cut it off

you need the bolt & nut remover set from sears it is made to remove stripped ones and works really good

Easy to remedy my boy.

Get a 12 point socket that will barely not go on the rounded nut. Use a long extension and use a hammer and beat the 12 point socket over the rounded nut. Then back it off and use a punch to knock the nut out of the socket.

cutting it off is one of your last options. like said above, try and force a smaller socket on. if that doesn't work, i have used a dremel with a small blade to cut the rounded edges of a bolt down to a new hex, where a smaller size socket can fit on. did you try vice grips? they are pretty much the answer to everything...

12 point socket FTW!

I use this method to remove rounded lugnuts and wheel locks when the key is lost. Works great!!

doesn't always work so great though. i ended up spending 3 hours at a tire shop because they lost my locking lug nut key, and had to hammer sockets onto the old ones........ needless to say, i was not impressed.

And everytime I used the 12 point socket method it worked.

has anyone else ever tried re-cutting bolts like i suggested before? i'm not saying it's the best option, but if you're cheap like me, it actually works pretty good! only takes a couple seconds! i've never had to do it on my car, but i used to work in a fab shop, and it worked great for me there, but i've never really heard of anyone doing it before, although i'm sure it's been done....
i've also done it with stripped screws, just cut a notch into the head so a flat head can take it out.

At the shop I work at I have stripped bolts and messed up the head on bolts, I just got a bolt extractor set from snap on that are a bunch of differnt sizes. Its like $120.00 for the set but I think they do sell it at sears for way cheaper. you may have to get that one but its easy to remove stuborn nuts and bolts. Its the size of a socket but the inside has hilical cut teeth inside, just beat it on and back it out. Yeah sadly to say I have also stripped wheel lock sockets a few times wich forced me to get a wheel lock removal set also. But in the long run it was money well spent I guess.
