Well let me start from the begining. The girlfriend and I were out shopping yesterday and my third gear started to make a rattling type sound. Drove the rest of the day and it wasn't noticable. I thought it was the rattle that 95's are known for or is it the 5.0's not sure anyhow(the plate rattle that comes from shifter, during hard shifts and punching the gas hard) ... Well guess what happened today. We went over to Walmart to exchange some stuff and on the way home there was thing guy going slow after we had made a left hand turn through the intersection. So from second to third I punch it to pass him, then out of no where this loud ass rattle started and wouldn't stop. And Imean loud! So I pushed in the clutch and it stopped. I was like don't tell me! ... Let the clutch out in neutral even and the rattle is there but not as loud as it was. Push the clutch in again and no rattle. @#&*!!! it's my tranny! ... Luckily I was only 2 blocks from home and it was downhill. I have been trying to think of other things it could be. But I am just fooling myself and have faced reality. Need a new tranny! This get's to my tech Q's::::::::

What tranny would you guy's suggest? I was thinking the tremec TKO 3550 So I don't have to think about a tranny for a long time. Any suggestions are appreciated. I need to get it fixed right away for the best price I can so if any deals are known out there please let me know. *Looking for lowest price, High Quality Tranny*

Thanks Guy's ... this just happened 2.5 Hours ago and I am pissed. I had been buying my suspension components and now that needs to go on hold for who knows how long. Now that I have to pay for this.

same exact thing happened to my friends 91. He blew 3rd out and it made the rattling noise even when it was in neutral. Does it sound likes theres something loose just banging around in there? He recently bought a new TKO 3550 off of ebay and loves it. He make those trannys go through hell and this one just loves the abuse. So i would imagine that these things are built really well. Good luck.

I had that same thing happen to me about two weeks ago. I had a spare tranny sitting in my shed so I just swapped it out. I havent brought it to get fixed yet though.
So I know how you feel.

Yes the sound is like there is something banging around in there. It sounds awful. I hate to here my stang sound like that. I was thinking of going the same route as your buddy. A Tremec TKO off of Ebay. I am glad to hear he loves it and his Ebay experience went well for sure. Do you know what Ebay store he bought it from??

Thanks

It could be as simple as a worn throwout bearing.

If it was the throwout bearing it would make a squeaking noise like metal to metal contact. His sounds like a banging. A little different.

the 3550 is great. i love mine, it really takes a hammering. it is noisier than a T5, so be prepared for that, but other than that its great. some heat sheilding material or dynamat will take care of it
