hey guys,
ok the night before last i got my engine out to change my oil pan gasket, RMS, and pilot bearing, and to do some cleaning(oil everywhere from pan gasket). but when i dropped my pan and started cleaning on it i noticed this brown sandy looking type stuff settled in the bottem of the pan. it also had really tiny metal shavings in it. tiny as in like a dust, but my dad said that was normal wear.?? but i ask a mechanic at work and he said the brown stuff in the pan was coolent in the oil.... so was the mechanic right??? do i have coolent in my oil, and are those dust like shavings normal wear?? err.....

coolant in the oil wouldn't settle to the bottom of the oil pan, it is thinner than oil and therefore would be on top.

Not sure about the brown stuff but if the silvery metal is so thin that it looks marblized than it is probably normal wear. How many miles are on the motor?

if you were seeing coolant, it would be floating on top of your oil after you drained it. how much metal stuff was there?

If you pull your oil filter off, are there metal shavings on the top? If so, you might have problems. If you just have some fine silvery dust-like stuff in the oil in the bottom of the pan, like 69clark said, it's probably normal wear. Do you have a magnetic drain plug?

130k miles well i cut open the oil filter with a ziz wheel and didnt find any metal shavings, so i guess it is just normal wear. would still like to know what that brown ***** was. im gonna start saving for a new D.S.S pro bullet after i get back from bonnaroo so hopefully it last till then

Sounds like the brown sandy stuff might just be sludge. Certain oils are worse than others for leaving deposits. Just curious, but did you buy the car new?
