Hell, the guys in the Mach 1's with the Cobra Eaton top end conversion are running the stock 8psi pulley without breaking a sweat and they're running damn near that same compression ratio?

On pump gas?

I'm not saying it's impossible, just really, really, really not an ideal foundation for boost.

Yep. There's a guy on a local board here that has an Eaton swapped Mach with the stock Cobra blower, pulley and everything. The only items on his car that aren't factory Ford from the Mach or Cobra is the exhaust and the CAI, he runs 11's.

Like I said, not impossible, just not ideal. Also consider this engine is 11:1, where the Mach is 10.1:1.

Honestly if i bought the new 5.0 (someday i'll have one) i'd probably just throw bolt ons at it.. Your standard full exhaust, intake, TB, maybe cams, and a tune should be good for some fun!

Hard to say w/3.31s. Definately needs more gear. It felt slow compared to mine

Should wake them up quite a bit. 6-8#s will be nice on these

What are the 0-60 and 1/4 mile times supposed to be?

I'll bring my camera in and take some more. These were taken with my ENV3

IDK- havent heard yet, but I'm guessing 12.50-12.80s with a good driver and good track w/3.73s-3.55s

Jay does work for Ford. He knows lots of people. He's gotten me some smoking deals on items that coworkers were giving away. Car's they'd buy, they didn't like the wheels, they'd buy new stuff, and I'd buy their stock stuff and resell it.

Jay, there is an article about a 2010 which still had the 4.6L (315FWHP) in the MM&FF magazine. With a CAI and tune it made 300RWHP and ran 13.1 in the 1/4.

The new 5.0L is gonna be 100 more HP, so I can't wait to see what that will run.

If I didn't buy the 2004, I'd consider one.

I saw that.

Me too.

I wuold love to get a 2012, but I dont want another car payment.

Yea, that and hypereutectic pistons + powdered metal rods. Boost on this engine = fail.

Color me skeptic, at least until Ford comes out with a boost-friendly version of this motor.

Those rods and pistons will handle a lot more than you think.

11:1 is a little steep, but most people buying them AREN'T going to touch them.

That's gotta be the cleanest factory Ford engine bay ever. The engine might actually make up for the gay tail lights. I hope they only do a 2-3 year run with this body style and then tweak it just enough to fix the stupid looking back end.

Can't please everyone

Yep

My tuner pushed his 04 Mach1 waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay past what anyone on here would imagine with the stock bottom end and a Kenne Bell and LOTS of boost. I'll see if he still has the info about it on his website and add a link cause you wouldn't believe me if I told you its that crazy

most people won't even do that.

on these, most people will go cat back and maybe a mid pipe. no need for lt's on these, unless you're going to get real serious. the factory tri-y headers will do just fine

If i remember correctly, i read an article on the development of the new engine by the lead engineers and swore i remember reading that the engine was designed for future boosting potential. Unsure how though.

The engine will actually run on 87 octane....402HP on 87, 412 on premium

You asked with pump gas on his comments about Machs, I was just answering you. I didn't say anything about the 11.

Yea I've read similar stuff. They made it clear, though, that the '11 bottom end was NOT intended to handle boost (that's not to say that nobody will try it). But in the future with different rods and pistons, they plan to go that route. I guess the new block and crank are bomb proof. IIRC, they were saying that the Terminator rods can be used in this engine, and by the sounds of the new GT350, they already are building boost-ready versions of this engine.

Same here. I already really like the 2010 GT but the 400hp/6-speed is icing on the cake.

If there's a "Track Pak" that includes more gear I'd probably just go with that until I got more familiar with the car. I would also add wheels (already have them in mind ) and tint.

According to the '11 order guide, No track pack for the '11s (see below)

Pretty GT350 engine is the same. Prob only running 6psi. Not sure on the specs.

the bell housing bolt patterns are the same as the 4.6s too so trans swaps ( to heavy duty units- if you'd want to) can be done as well

to bad this car is coming out at the worst possible time to sell them. The mustang had a horrible year last year sales wise ( still beat dodge and chebby) and now this super 5.0 is coming out and no one has any money to go buy it.

Im hoping poeple go to the dealership and look then think well let me see how much that 5.0 i had back in 1990 cost used. Might bring the value of our cars up a bit.

whatever the case, i want a 2011 5.0 but dont have any money to buy one

Couldn't be any worse than the old 2V engines and members were adding 200hp to them pretty easily with a little boost. Granted, we were working with less compression, but also much, much weaker internal components by comparison.

From what I've read, not only is the new 5.0L sporting a steel crank, but new “forged powdered metal rods” backed with a new, more stable piston design that's proposed to mist oil onto the underside of the piston in order to greatly reduce hotspots and as a result, chances of detonation.
I’m sure a set of forged slugs and H-Beam rods would be a tougher alternative, but I suspect with a 7,000RPM redline, the intent here was to add strength, without tacking on excess weight to the rotating assembly.

Nice man, I just test drove a 2010 4.6... i want one bad and i want my first new car...bad. should i wait for the 5.0? was it THAT much better? i know itll be better than the 2010, obviously, but the longer i go without buying a new car the more i pound my fox into the ground... so ive been debating to wait or just buy a GT cheap with the rebates (and my dad's A-plan)...

...and the longer you're able to put money asside for the new one. Stick it out man, the more you save, the less you need to borrow against.

So what kind of power are we talking with some mild head work and cams and aftermarket bolt ons. Finish the exhaust and intake work???

10:1 is different than 11:1 to one. Yea my uncle had a 04 Mach with a procharger, 469 rwhp. Sweet ride.
