Guy from work is interested in getting a fox. He doesnt know much about mustangs or cars in general, so i went with him just to help look for the obvious things you know, torque box plates, wavy roof, the usual. In this case it was a 90 GT hatch with a 351w. it was a nightmare, the owner was a tool.
Car had busted euro tails, homemade subframes that looked to be welded on by a blind man. 351w with a quickfuel carb of unknown size and specs, eddie intake and the rest of the motor was a mystery. The guy said "you know as much about the motor as i do". That was my key to walk away but my friend was still interested (how i do not know). Got up under the car to check the torque boxes (not sure what happened to them but they definitly werent solid) and noticed the hacked up exhaust and custom rust shorties. Guy claimed it had a mild cam, in fact he said "im pretty sure its got a cam, look at the motor shaking, it wouldnt do that for no reason"...apparently busted motor mounts give you a cam
The interior was sitting in the hatch area, there were quite a few vac lines attached to nothing and it was smoking out of the header flange like a freight train. Had an ignition box that ive never seen before and autometer gauges from the 80s. Looked like it had E7 heads on it although they had enough filth on them to keep me from getting any ID from them.
The guy went on to say that its a monster and he wasnt sure if we could test drive it because he didnt want someone to get hurt. He said he was going to throw in a set of MT Streets with it that were mounted on welds...he also claimed that the car was sitting on prostars but they were an old knock off lead weight brand. It had a 4" cowl hood on it that was busted up pretty well (i honestly think it was rubber as it was flexible as hell
)
My friend then asked about the trans and thats when it really got hilarious. Dude says "its got a pretty nice 5 speed in it, shifts pretty well....as long as you wait a few seconds between shifts and hold the clutch...and 2nd and 3rd grind" He said he hit the rev limiter in 4th going 95 (not sure how thats something to brag about but hell at this point i was already speechless)
Hes going to air up the flat tire and let my friend test drive it later tonight, im not going back out there and sure as hell not riding in it. There were a lot more flaws, some rust and what not, but i think everyone gets the idea at this point
I present to you: $2500 worth of racing fury
