Went to the track last night and sucked!

I went to the track last night, it was the local tracks last midnight mania thing. It was only my second time at the track with my stang. I dont know why but for some reason they had the tree set for instant green, which sucked and I need some more practice too.

Here are some of my times

I had no traction all night, I was running 235/60/15 BFG Radial T/As.

As soon as I get some cash Im going to get some 275/60/15 Nitto Drag Radials

Tires and practice and youll probably drop close to a second.Your 60 fts suck like mine( my best on street tires is 2.1) and i ran a 14 flat@102 .

I was thinking something is up. Those trap speeds are for a low 12 second car.

those traps are not low 12's. more like low 13's. with some better tires, i don't see how your car WOULDN'T run 12's though. i agree with aliatex, running at the track in street tires is like running the 40 meter dash in flip flops.

That mph is good for mid 13s easy with tires,but with a blower it should still be trapping a little higher.How is going to the track a waste with street tires?its still giving him some experience at the track and its still fun.Atleast he isnt staying home and being a internet drag racer.LOL

It's been my experience that even with a well prepped track, street tires hook LESS at the track than they do on the street. On the other hand, my drag radials hook like a SOB on the street but spin like crazy at the track.

You shouldn't have any problem running at least mid-high 13s with a 1.9 60 foot or better.

At least you got to make a pass,lol!! My maiden voyage in this car didn't go so well.

I drove 2hrs to get there....unloaded, tech'd in, drove around the pits for a lap to warms the trans/rear a little. Take the car up for a run. Get into the water box, put it in 2nd and bring up the revs...dump the clutch and do about a 3 second burnout...then a loud POP(about 4500 rpms) and the car died,lol. Tried cranking it, but no start....so i get pushed back by the starter. Tow it back to the pits, checked for spark(yep), fuel pumps were priming and had a little low fp(26psi) and had plenty of fuel in it...but wouldn't fire. Load it up for the drive home.

Hadn't been to the track to make a pass in like 5 years....every time i go i break something,lol!!! Really haven't tried figuring out whats wrong yet.

Get your 60's down to a 2.0 and you'll be in the mid 13's. Get em down to a 1.8 and you mite nail a 12.9

yep useless on street tires. very frustrating. two weeks ago was my first time ever at the track (see my thread in talk)

Most of my times were in the 13 zone as I could not hook up. Did run a best of 12.78 however.

Then yesterday I bolted up a set of old slicks, no other changes and ran a best of 12.24! very happy

mines the same way, hook real well on the street but spin most of the way through first unless launching almost right off idle. gotta put some new shocks on it (some old ass dead monroe pos cruiser shocks on there now) and see if that helps it a bit.

That sucks, my street tires suck on the street but worked alright at the track. Some tracks I have issues with, and now that the trac loc is bad I spin, but the street vs the track for me is much better at the track.

Some days just aren't your friend. My friends GT was going 12.70's all day long last Saturday. Just this past Saturday his car was going 12.20's all day. WTF? Same track, same tires etc..

Yup, sometimes things can be weird. I had one day last year where my 1/8 mph was weird on me. One pass it went 87, then the next 83. Then 87 again, then 83 again... No rhyme or reason and the 1/4 numbers were all within a mph.

I only used street tires once at the track. 2.1's were the norm. Just keep going Ike, sounds like you need some more experience.

Could running too rich be a cause of alittle of my time for being slow? Besides my tires and me needing practice. I think I have a tear in my fuel pressure regulator diaphram, my vacuum line to it smelled like gas when I took it off after I got home from the track, and on the way from the track when I would just push the gas from a cruise there would be a delay before my car took off and it didnt really go till around no vacuum.

I ordered a new adjustable fuel pressure regulator ( mine was still stock I think) today along with some other probably needed things like plugs and wires.

Installed my plugs wires and regulator, it runs a lot better and smoother. I also found something else that was hurting me besides my regulator, #3 cylinder spark plug wasn't firing, the plug ground electrode (previous owner had e3 plugs in it) was all rusty and I looked at the plug wire and there was a tiny crack by the boot, so I think I was only running on 7 cylinders.

Went to the track last night and sucked!
