Were all '69-'70 Center Consoles black?

Just curious because I have one that came with my car (PO threw it in with the deal) but my interior is ALL red... red seats, dash pad, carpet, headliner, etc.... I have always thought about installing the console but didn't because of the color. I have painted the interior parts so I know it can be done but a whole console with chrome trim - I'm not so confident.

Any suggestions? (No, I won't give it to anyone )

they did come in colors other than black. as for the chrome trim it's easy to tape off and paint around. i would highly recommend disassembling the console before paint though.

We have a Mexican 69 Mustang here in Denmark with a brown and wood trim console.

Thanks for the replies.

I am thinking more and more that I may dissasemble and paint the console. I used SEM interior paint on my trim. Would I be able to use the same paint on the hard plastic part of the console as I use on the soft lid? Perhaps I can use the paint that I get for the lid on the rest of the console because the only difference would be the addition of a plasticiser (sp) I think...

Mine is ginger.... gag... Definately going to do a black interior though... after the bodywork.
